Savignac-de-Nontron is located in a rural area of France between Angoulême, Limoges and Périgueux, north of the Dordogne River. This region is particularly known for its hills and valleys, as well as its network of rivers and lakes. In addition to castles (Bourdeilles, Puyguilhem), caves (Lascaux, Villars) and attractive towns (Brantôme, St. John de Cole) to visit, there are many activities (walking, horseback riding, canoeing, go-karting, tennis, golf).
The property is 5 km from Nontron, a small market town with bars, restaurants and supermarkets, originally known for its knife and slipper industry.
Within walking distance, the hamlet of Savignac de Nontron (1 km) has a small bar and a shop for basic necessities.
When it comes to food and wine, the Perigord region is renowned for its great food (the Périgueux Market) and, as you'd expect, there are plenty of restaurants in the area to suit all budgets, ranging from the Moulin de l'Abbaye in Brantome to the excellent Auberge du Vieux Chateau in Varaignes. Wine is incredibly cheap in the local winery or supermarket, but for the more connoisseurs, we are an hour and a half drive from Bergerac, Saint-Émilion or Cognac.
The nearest airports are Bordeaux (2 hours drive) and Paris (Charles de Gaulle, 5 hours).
The high-speed train runs directly from Charles de Gaulle Airport to Angoulême (a 50-minute drive from Forge Basse), where you can also rent a car. This route is becoming more and more popular from London. The Eurostar connects Waterloo to Lille, from where the TGV connects directly to Angoulême.
An excellent 9-hole golf course is 25 minutes away.
